For two centuries, travelers have found a welcoming and hospitable stop in this small historic community in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Good Old Fashion Fun A festival celebrating the pioneer heritage with arts, crafts, entertainment and food, held at the Gateway Museum in town. Please allow time for the pictures of our last Pioneer Day to load.
Freedom Celebration Fireworks on the 4th with a parade at 2 p.m. RODEO on the weekend. A real, old-fashioned cowboy rodeo. Bull roping, bucking broncos, clowns, and more. Pulls into town every year at the intersection of Catawba River Road and I-40. Hosted by our Ruritan Club Date: Every Friday night at 7 PM
Every Friday hundreds of people get together in a hall beside the old Fire Department for music making and dancing. Nobody's paid everyone's welcome and coffee and soft drinks are still just a quarter. Mountain Music featuring traditional music. Old Mountain Christmas
Date: 5,6,7,12,13,14 December 2002 An Old Fort tradition. Authentic foods cooked and served by local non-profit groups at the Railroad Depot. These dinners are the only way most of these groups raise money to provide their services to the community. Christmas Parade

Popular streamside and wooded picnic area. A gravity-forced geyser, which shoots a tall water plume in the air, was constructed in 1885 to mark the railroad gateway to the Blue Ridge Mountains.
